Tyrone Strother is an internationally represented multidisciplinary artist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and author whose practice spans original silk paintings, sculpture, music, and an extensive body of published literature. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, he brings decades of creative development to a practice grounded in intricate craftsmanship, composition, and storytelling.
Represented by L’Original Gallery in Montréal, Canada, with a presence on Artsy, Strother’s career encompasses international gallery exhibitions, New York institutional exhibitions, published artist documentation, and archival preservation.
Raised in Hunts Point, Strother developed his creative foundation through music and the neighborhood’s arts community. His musical education included involvement with THE POINT Community Development Corporation, Jazzmobile, and the Hunts Point Academy of Music, alongside mentorship from Latin jazz flutist Dave Valentin.
His experience as a musician and composer continues to inform his broader practice. Rhythm, structure, and movement connect his musical compositions with the intricate arrangements of his silk paintings, sculptural forms, and literary narratives.
At the center of Strother’s visual practice is Silk Architecture, his approach to constructing detailed, original paintings on silk. Working with charmeuse, crepe de chine, and habotai, he combines hand-drawn gutta resist with carefully developed color and elaborate imagery. Each work is individually painted, steam-set, washed, and prepared for presentation as a singular work of fine art.
His compositions explore wildlife, cultural imagery, cityscapes, and imagined environments. The silk’s luminosity and fluidity become part of the composition, supporting an interplay between precise linework, saturated color, and surface.
His sculptural practice incorporates digital modeling, clay, resin, and mixed media, extending his visual language into dimensional form.
Alongside his visual art, Strother maintains an extensive practice in composition, music production, and independent publishing. His musical work draws on his jazz education and experience across multiple instruments, extending into original arrangements, studio production, and soundscapes.
His literary catalog spans more than 100 published titles, encompassing science fiction, suspense, action thrillers, murder mysteries, and experimental humor. Projects include Lake Doom and the multi-volume The Encyclopedia of Nonsince. Across these works, he develops characters, environments, and interconnected ideas with the same sustained attention that shapes his visual compositions.
trother’s history also includes public recognition for courage beyond the studio. After relocating to Elgin, Illinois, he was honored for helping rescue children from a residential fire.
Across fine art, music, and literature, Tyrone Strother has built an independent creative practice with international representation and a documented institutional history. His work unites the discipline of a craftsman, the structural instincts of a composer, and the imagination of a storyteller.
